The Spotted Lantern Fly Has Arrived in Shrewsbury....
Hello residents, Due to a report of elevated number of Spotted Lantern Flies within the Borough please help take action to prevent the spread and protect our trees! STOMP THEM OUT! As you may know, spotted lantern flies are expanding into new counties of the state. The NJDA just added 5 more counties to the quarantine totaling 13 counties. The new counties are Essex, Monmouth, Middlesex, Union, and Morris. Attached are helpful spotted lanternfly documents, especially in the new affected counties. This will help prepare for some of the issues associated with this non-native pest. Please click below for more information.

March 16, 2020 - Covid-19 Update
We have been monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19 for several weeks. Given the fluid nature of the virus, and focusing on the public safety of our community, we have prepared the following proactive plan in order to remain operational at this time.

This plan, based on public health organization recommendations, will take immediate effect (3/16/2020) until further notice:
  • All payments, permit requests and documents requiring borough review/approval can either be mailed in, emailed or left in our Drop Box. The Drop Box is located inside the initial front doors, or vestibule of Borough Hall, before the entrance doors to our main lobby.
  • Mailing Address: Borough of Shrewsbury 419 Sycamore Avenue Shrewsbury, NJ 07702
  • Please limit any borough business to be conducted over the phone or electronically
  • Phone - (732) 741-4200 x-107, 108
  • Email – admin@shrewsburyboro.com

For the most accurate information, the CDC has a number of informative resources specific to the virus online, which can be accessed by visiting cdc.gov/coronavirus. The “Shared Facts About COVID-19” page is also a useful tool in understanding facts about the virus.

Again, with the fluid nature surrounding COVID-19, this plan will take immediate effect until further notice. Thank you for your time and understanding.

March 13, 2020 - Covid-19 Update
Shrewsbury Residents -- Consistent with the policy announced today by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Shrewsbury will be limiting public access to the Municipal Building until further notice. This policy is being put in place to attempt to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

During this time, the Borough will continue its operations and employees will be available via email and phone.

Emergency services will not be impacted by this change.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but this step is necessary to ensure the safety of the public and Borough employees. We urge all our Shrewsbury residents to take special care of their health needs, practice preventative measures to avoid infection and refer to our website (www.shrewsburyboro.com) and Facebook page (Shrewsbury Borough, NJ Government) for up-to-date information on all aspects and status regarding Covid-19. Thank you and stay safe and healthy!
March 10, 2020 - Covid-19 Update
On Monday night, the Borough held a meeting to discuss the current state of Covid-19 (Corona Virus) within the state and our immediate region. We also discussed how to best protect our residents, visitors and First Responders in light of the health risks associated with Covid-19. In attendance at the meeting were representatives of Shrewsbury's OEM, Police, First Aid, Fire, DPW, Shrewsbury Borough School, Town Engineer, Borough Administration and members of the Borough Council. Additionally, we were joined by the head of our Regional Health Commission.

During the meeting, we received a briefing from the Regional Health Commission. We also discussed how the Borough would respond to a positive case of Covid-19 in Shrewsbury (I stress there are no current reported cases of Covid-19 in our Borough). The purpose of the meeting was to make sure that the Borough is in the best possible position to serve our community. In today's age of social media, facts are often blurred with rumor and non-truths. We intend to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information we receive about Covid-19 and its impact on Shrewsbury in the coming days.

Currently, we will continue to monitor the results of the "presumptive positive" test in our region and the potential impacts from that case. (FYI--A "presumptive positive" test means an individual has tested positive for Covid-19 through a test administered by the state or private company. The test is not deemed "positive" until the CDC confirms the test results).

Additionally, we held a meeting with our Senior Living Facilities to discuss Covid-19. As we face this challenge together, we ask that if you are sick, stay home, wash your hands and contact your health provider if you experience symptoms.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the Borough. If we can provide an answer, we will. If we cannot, we will find out who can. Information on Covid-19 can be found on the following pages below:
