The First Aid Squad headquarters is located at 115 Haddon Avenue at the intersection of Laurel Street.
The building was formerly known as the Sanders Metal Shop when it was
purchased in 1964. The building was renovated to add a meeting room in 1973 and a
large two-bay garage was added in 1982. Our headquarters features a small kitchen,
a radio and computer center, meeting room, garage and equipment storage.
The Squad operates two ambulances. Unit 4556 is a 1990
Braun Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and Unit 4557 is a 1998 Braun (ERV).
We alternate calls between the two vehicles so that the
wear is balanced. Each vehicle is used on almost 300 calls a
year. We often need both ambulances if we have multiple calls at the same time
or if we have a multi-patient incident. As part of the 16th District and Monmouth County
Mutual Aid Agreements we may take one ambulance out of town to help another municipality while maintaining the second to cover the
residents of Shrewsbury.
Organization
The Shrewsbury First Aid Squad is a private 501(C) 4 tax-exempt organization
of volunteers governed by a Board of Directors. SFAS is a member of the Monmouth
County Association of First Aid Squads and the 16th District of the
New Jersey State First Aid Council.
The squad members annually elect corporate and operations officers.

Financial Support
The squad is funded through three sources. The Borough of Shrewsbury provides a budget which supports
a portion of the squad's operational costs. In addition the Borough purchases the squad's ambulances and provides
insurance. Without this support the squad could not operate. In recent years, the State of New Jersey has provided
some indirect support to volunteer first aid organizations through a training fund supported by a fifty cent surcharge on
all moving violations. This fund pays for all basic and refresher EMT training and part of the continuing education.
However, without the financial support of residents, business community and visitors, the squad still could not operate
each year. Starting in August, the squad conducts its annual fund drive through the mail. This appeal generates over half of our required revenue. In addition, many whom we directly serve during the year are gracious enough to send a gift in their name or that of a loved one. The squad welcomes such contributions and has special programs and recognitions in which donors may participate. Drop us a note or contact one of our officers if you are interested in providing special support.
