COUNCIL CREATES DISPOSABLE WATER BOTTLE FREE ZONES
The Environmental Commission proposed a resolution declaring the Boro Hall, the Department of Public Works and Manson, Patterson and Sickles parks to be disposable water bottle free zones.  Council approved the resolution wholeheartedly.  The resolution requires residents and town employees to use reusable water bottles and forego the plastic disposable bottles.  Disposable plastic bottles create excessive waste, litter our parks and use large quantities of non-renewable energy sources like oil in their fabrication.  Also, bottled water costs significantly more than tap water, and contrary to popular belief,  is no healthier or purer than tap water.  Town employees and board members will receive a stainless steel water bottle with the Environmental Commission logo on it as they take the lead in encouraging residents to make the switch.  The next time you head to the park, remember to bring your water in a reusable container!!

GREEN TEAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE FORMED
The Boro has formed the Green Team Advisory Committee to lead the town's Sustainable Jersey certification efforts.  This group will chose green projects and take the lead in implementing these initiatives in an effort to preserve Shrewsbury's resources for future generations.  Once the town has accumulated 150 points, it will receive a bronze certification.  The Green Team welcomes new members and volunteers to help reduce the town's carbon footprint and achieve this environmental recognition award.  Please contact Jill Gwydir at jagwydir@gmail.com if you are interested in joining the Green Team.

GREEN TIP - RECYCLING
The average adult in the USA receives a whopping 41 pounds of junk mail a year and approximately 44% of this mail winds up in a landfill without having been opened. That's a lot of trees, water and other resources being wasted.  Please remember to recycle your junk mail or better yet, call to have your name removed from junk mail lists!!

Shrewsbury Borough adopts Resolution #2011-57, "No Idling" Zone that establishes Shrewsbury Borough as an Idle Free Zone.  We can avoid producing unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions and exposure to air toxins by reducing or eliminating wasteful vehicle idling. The Environmental Commission has No Idling signs available to commercial property owners to post.  Click here to view Resolution #2011-57.
