How Do I Commend An Officer?

Citizens who feel an officer has performed his or her  duties in a particularly courteous, helpful or competent manner may express their appreciation in a number of ways.

§   Write a letter to the officer, the officer's Supervisor or to:

Be sure to obtain the officer's name and badge number if possible.

How Do I Make A Complaint?

The SPD also recognizes that we might not always put our best foot forward and that mistakes are made.  In the interest of maintaining the high caliber of police services, correcting our oversights and improving the overall quality of police services, we encourage members of the community to bring these matters to our attention as well.  Complaints against members of the Shrewsbury Police Department may be made by phone, letter or in person.  Complaints will also be accepted anonymously.  Complaints may be made to any member of the Police Department; by email, phone, fax, US Mail or in-person regardless of your age or citizenship status.  The address of the Police Department is

All complaints received by the Department are processed through the Internal Affairs Unit.  In every case, the person making the complaint will be contacted during the investigation for additional information, kept abreast of his progress and will be notified by mail of the final disposition.
